We are delighted to announce that we are organizing a Summer School ‘Get yourself started for 2024-2029: how to work with evidence-based decision-making in the EU?’, in August 2024, in Tirana, Albania.

The Impact Assessment Institute is pleased to present its upcoming Summer School, dedicated to advancing Better Regulation and evidence-based policy-making within the European Union. This comprehensive program will delve into the intricacies of Impact Assessments (IAs) conducted by the Commission, as well as the strategic utilization of IA and related evidence in the European Parliament (EP) and the Council.

The Summer School will take place from Tuesday 27th  August to Friday 30th  August 2024, at the Rogner Hotel Tirana, in Tirana, Albania. Each day will commence at 09:00 and conclude at 16:00, with two coffee breaks and one lunch break provided for participants’ comfort and convenience.

Why should you attend the Summer School on EU Better Regulation?

EU Better Regulation Summer School 2024 on ‘Get yourself started for 2024-2029: how to work with evidence-based decision-making in the EU?’ is the perfect opportunity for everyone who will have to work with the policy agenda of the next Commission: public affairs professionals, civil servants, and many more.

We will dive into the details of the Better Regulation approach and the Impact Assessment process of the European Commission. This is coupled with practical tips and tricks on how to engage during this crucial stage of EU decision-making. We will then take you to how Impact Assessments are taken to the European Parliament and the Council during the Ordinary Legislative Procedure.

At the end of the summer school, participants will have a much better understanding of their opportunities to make a real impact on EU decision-making.

Erik Akse

Better Regulation Expert & Founder of Impact Assessment Institute

Erik Akse is the expert for EU decision-making and policy development with more than 20 years of experience. He was directly involved in over 180 Impact Assessments, evaluations, and related public consultation processes. He worked at the Dutch Administration and the European Commission.

He coaches individuals on the functioning of and engagement with the European Union and provides strategic advice on strategic engagement with EU procedures for maximum effect in public affairs. He also provides training and presentations on EU decision-making and policy development.

Erik regularly shares his practical insights by publishing books and articles on EU decision-making and Better Regulation.

Joost Mulder

European Affairs Expert

Joost Mulder is a European affairs expert with two decades of experience in EU legislation. In 2017, he launched Better Europe Public Affairs, a consultancy dedicated to delivering advocacy impact for Europe’s civil society. Better Europe’s focus are NGOs defending environmental, human rights and other societal interests. Joost previously worked as a political assistant to an MEP, a financial industry lobby consultant, and Head of Public Affairs at the financial regulation NGO Finance Watch.

As an experienced Brussels insider, Joost has detailed knowledge of EU decision-making and first-hand lobby experience on trilogies, internal Parliament and Council negotiations, delegated legislation, and the implementation of EU legislation. In addition to strategic and advocacy support for Better Europe’s clients, he provides frequent open training and institutional and personal coaching on lobbying. Joost is a member of the European Commission’s Financial Services User Group for Belgian NGO FairFin.

Joana Naçi

Managing Director at the Impact Assessment Institute

Joana Naçi is the Managing Director at Impact Assessment Institute and plays a pivotal role in driving the organization’s success.

She started her experience at Peace Corps Albania & Montenegro and CBS – Creative Business Solutions. Before joining the Impact Assessment Institute, she worked at the EU Twinning Project related to improving Food Safety in Albania.

Joana has broad experience with project communications, liaising with implementing partners and stakeholders, running procurements, event organisation, and all other aspects needed to make a project a success.

Joana holds a Bachelor ‘s Degree in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Finance-Banking from the Mediterranean University of Albania.
